Processing notes

Most of the data was processed, filtered, cleaned, and transformed in order to support the features provided by sfmaps. For more information on the methodology, please contact us at admin@sfmaps.net.

SFPD incident locations are mapped to nearby intersections for anonymity, not exact incident coordinates. Records before April 24, 2024 and records on or after April 24, 2024 use slightly different intersection mapping, which can create irregularities in analyses that span that date. The SFPD dataset is updated daily and historical records can change.

Crime rates are calculated from reported SFPD offense rows after excluding non-crime and administrative categories. Rates can be shown against either Census resident population or an estimated daytime population calculated from LODES8 2023 origin-destination worker flows.

Household income values use 2024 ACS 5-year block-group estimates from table B19013. ACS values are estimates with margins of error; missing, suppressed, or invalid medians are shown as no data.
